Present day radio interviewer more than 50 years, “driven by curiosity,” provides a regular forum for community issues and activities. Her personal involvement touches many aspects of local life, including service as the first chairwoman of United Way. The Eagle Grove native became the first female Daily Iowan editor while earning a UI degree in journalism in 1945. After brief stints in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and Albany, N.Y., she wed future UI extension service dean Robert Ray, returned to Iowa City in 1950, worked briefly at WSUI, then began her home-based KXIC show, while raising two daughters.
