Age: 83.

Community and seniors activist during four decades, retired First Christian Church pastor (1965-92), played key roles in Iowa City achieving national recognition as an outstanding place to live, particularly for seniors. From “Citizens for a Better Iowa City” support of council-manager government, chair of the city’s first cable-television committee and first housing commission with its rental assistance programs, to building Ecumenical Towers (1981), planning the senior center, developing senior dining, to state rules on assisted living facilities, he has contributed to numerous efforts with far-reaching affect, demonstrating that a persistent, informed volunteer can make a difference.
